World Radio Day is being celebrated across the world today to acknowledge the role of radio in awareness and ameliorating life of the masses.
This year’s theme is: Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.
Radio Pakistan has made comprehensive arrangements to mark the day.
A two-hour long live event to mark the Day is underway at Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs Channel in collaboration with the United Nations.
During this program, rich tributes will be paid to legends in different fields of broadcasting including Newsreaders, anchor persons, drama artists, poets, singers, composers, instrumentalists, sports commentators and writers who contributed in the glory of Radio Pakistan.
The show also aims at highlighting the pivotal role Radio Pakistan in promoting interfaith harmony, national cohesion, projecting government’s initiatives in politics, economy, national security, war on terror, foreign policy and promoting soft image of the country in global community.
In his message on the occasion, UN Secretary General António Guterres recognized the power of radio to promote dialogue, tolerance and peace.
He said Radio is uniquely positioned to bring communities together and foster positive dialogue for change.
He said this medium provides the diversity of views and voices needed to address the challenges faced by the humanity.
He said Radio is a powerful tool and even in today’s world of digital communications, radio reaches more people than any other media platform.
The UN Secretary General said Radio is still the most dynamic, reactive and engaging medium, adapting to 21st century changes and offering new ways to interact and participate.
