Millions of Muslims from across the globe gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the 27th night of Ramadan, performing Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers in search of Laylat Al-Qadr (The Night of Power).
Record-Breaking Attendance
In a new milestone, the Grand Mosque welcomed over 4.2 million worshipers on Wednesday night, according to Al-Ekhbariya.
Laylat Al-Qadr, considered one of the holiest nights in Islam, is described in the Qur’an as “better than a thousand months.” While its exact date remains unknown, it is widely believed to fall on the 27th night of Ramadan, though Muslims are encouraged to seek it on odd-numbered nights during the last 10 days.

Enhanced Operational Arrangements
To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, authorities implemented extensive arrangements:
- The Mataf (circumambulation area) was prepared to handle 107,000 pilgrims per hour, ensuring smooth movement inside the Grand Mosque.
- 428 escalators and 28 elevators were made available for ease of access.
- 1,300 modern audio speakers were set up to enhance the worship experience.
- Cooling systems with a capacity of 90,000 tons were installed to maintain a comfortable environment.
Medical Services for Pilgrims
The Makkah Region Health Affairs Department increased its medical support services, with healthcare centers stationed within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards to provide immediate medical assistance to worshipers.
This historic night saw millions of believers come together in devotion, seeking spiritual rewards and divine blessings in the holiest sites of Islam.
